shop update.

A fun new twist on the fingerless gloves have been listed in the shop. Up-cycled from t-shirts, tights, and sweaters … these are one of a kind! They’re perfect for work days at the computer in a drafty house … just a light extra layer to keep things cozy but not bulky. Inspired by Valentines … they are whimsical, colorful, and just a little sassy.

Go to the shop and check them out!

Workshop :: Getting to Know Your SLR.

Something I’d love to dabble more in is teaching and workshops. I hear again and again from people that they have a beautiful camera that they don’t know how to use. I love the idea of equipping people to understand the creative controls on their cameras giving them the tools to gain full access to this amazing toy tool! The feedback I’ve gotten from past mini-workshops or teaching environments have been very very positive. I think I have a good way with words and can put complicated technical concepts into laymen’s terms that anyone can understand. Come join us for a fun morning of learning more about your SLR!

We’ll be meeting in a cute coffee shop, Kouks Vintage Cafe, giving us an opportunity to learn in a cozy environment and then use the area indoors and out to practice what we learned.

Our first hour together will be spent going over basic exposure giving you a better understanding of how your creative settings affect your images. The second hour will be spent practicing what we learned with hands on photos and lots of time for question and answers. You’ll walk away with a much better understanding of what your camera can do and how to use it in different situations. There are a lot of models of SLRs out there so please plan to bring your camera manual so you can find the settings we’ll be talking about.

Class size will be limited to 8 people so I can answer questions and give students my best attention. If this is very successful I’d love to offer it again and maybe expand to add other workshops such as taking great shots of your kids, natural light photography, and more!

2 hour SLR workshop is $45 . non-refundable but you can transfer it to a friend

Use the “contact” link at the top of the blog to let me know you want to join us!  I’ll send you an invoice to secure your spot! Registration deadline is Friday, February 10th!

1000 gifts in 2012

I’ve never been one to follow the rules. Just ask my parents, or husband … or even my children for that matter. And so … as I embark on this 365 project … it feels limiting … and I want to include two {or more} pictures, not just one, and then I want to skip a day because it’s 9pm and I haven’t taken my picture for the day yet … and then I feel like I have to find something … but make it look ‘in the moment’ … or does it matter if it looks staged? Ugh. That’s not something I want to worry about. It does not keep my life simple.

If you’re following on instagram … or flickr … you’ll notice I’m up to 11 … but it’s only the 10th … because I see things – and I want to include them. I realized last night that I wasn’t actually enjoying the project and the requirement of just taking a picture a day … too much pressure … too limiting … and yet too random. The self portrait project in 2012 had perimeters … which helped guide my ideas. 365 … just feels random and loose and restricting all at the same time. And so … in light of my thoughts in the previous post with regard to the one thousand gifts, and living simply I thought I would turn the project into a visual journal of what I “see” and treasure and am grateful for … it could become a visual collection of moments that made my spirit smile in 2012.  Sometimes there are no words … just a picture … a picture that may not need words.  That is more me.

Then I began to feel like … to be required to take a photo a day … some days there are 6 things that speak to me … some days I get caught up in busy and I don’t take the time to “see” the moments. And so … I will not be limited to the daily … but I will be aware and adding to my visual journal of 1000 gifts throughout the days and weeks to the end of the year. The point is not to capture 1000 images this year … it is only to capture the moments that make my heart sing under the umbrella of the one thousand gifts theme. Just peeks will be published here on the blog – but all will be collected on Flickr! I’ve added a button in my footer for easy linking.

And so it evolves.:)And the project stays fun … and reflects me … and my life remains … simple.
